Thanksgiving

thanksgiving

Psalms 92:1 “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High” (KJV)

Thanksgiving is a word that consists of two names or words namely: thanks and giving. I will explain the meaning of each word so that we can well understand what it means.

Thanks – The dictionary defines it as; an acknowledgement of appreciation, with help of or owing to. It also means an exclamation expressing gratitude.

It’s the act of showing gratitude, credit or hold something or someone responsible for what they have done for us or otherwise. Should we thank the Lord for anything in our lives? Do we owe the Lord any gratitude and also appreciation?

Giving – it’s derived from the word give. So what does it mean? It means imparting of something like a promise or property or news to another person, disposing of something by voluntary transfer without receiving value in return, and transfer possession of something to somebody. Convey or reveal information.

The above is a definition of what giving entails. I like the following meanings “convey or reveal information and also transfer possession of something to somebody.”

Thanksgiving is the act of showing gratitude and appreciation to our Lord for all He has done in our lives, this entails revealing the information and transfer of possession of what has happened in your lives that it all happened because of God and also because of His power and providence.

We should give thanks always to our Lord without wanting to receive any value in return, what do I mean by this? I mean that we should not take any glory from what has happened in our lives but we should acknowledge it’s all because of the Lord that we own what we own, experience what we have experienced.

Psalms 92:1 “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High” (KJV)

The Bible tells us that it’s good to give thanks and praise the Lord. When we thank and praise the Lord we are told that when we call Him in the day of trouble He will deliver us. Psalms 50:14-15 “Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.”

When we go back to give praise and thanksgiving we are made whole and perfect than if we didn’t take the initiative to go back to the Lord with thanksgiving. The scenario of the ten lepers we find that the one that came back to JESUS CHRIST to give thanks was made whole but the others were just cleansed. When he went back Jesus did more than just cleansing and healing him but he made him whole. Do you want GOD to do more than the miracle he did for you? Then give thanks and praise the Lord.

Most of us pray and promise the Lord that if He does this or that we will give thanks to Him but do we really remember to give thanks or do we just forget?

“When we praise we are raised but when we complain we remain”. It’s the will of God that we should thank Him. 1Thessalonians 5:18 “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (KJV)
