Why Go To Church

Why Go To Church

I have had so many arguments about the issue of church going. Should we be church goers or is it too much?

Today I would like to share a certain story that I read long ago I hope and pray it will help me in driving the point home.

First of all my stand about this issue is that it’s very Biblical to go to church. St. Paul told the Hebrews not to forsake the congregation of saints.

Hebrews 10:25 “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”

When Jesus was on earth he went to the synagogues. Why shouldn’t we go to church on Sabbath if we follow Jesus Christ’s example?

Here is the story:

A churchgoer wrote a letter to the editor of a certain newspaper in his country and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. “I’ve gone church for 30 years now,” he wrote, “and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But I can’t remember even a single one of them. So I think I’m wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.”

This started a real controversy in the “Letters to the Editor” column, much to the delight of the editor.

It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher: “I’ve been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But I cannot recall the entire menu for one of those meals. But I do know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me those meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!”

Each time we go in a congregation where the true gospel of God is being preached people are set free, bondages are broken and also ones faith is increased. When one hears a testimony of the other person it raises his or her spirits and if that person was about to give up he or she gets a new dimension of faith and hope.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. In our day to day lives we have so many sources of which we hear negative and shocking news but when we are in church we will have an opportunity to hear the word of God which will increase our faith, it’s the truth so it will set us free from any bondage, and it also cleanses us.

Friends let’s not forsake the assembling.
